- 16: How to Prune Your Fruit Trees and Shrubs (1:00PM)- Charlie Venturella & Tom Nowak - Penn State Master Gardeners will teach the basics of pruning fruit trees and shrubs. Learn about various pruning techniques, as well as the use and care of pruning tools, on the shrubs at the Indiana Community Garden. Bring your pruning tools to try your hand at pruning. - 4: Getting the Most Out of Your Backyard Garden: Seed Starting and Small-Scale Solutions (11:00AM)- Family friendly workshop at the Indiana County Conservation District. *A Friends of the Parks Program*
- 13: Composting for Beginners (5:30-6:30) - Learn the basics of composting and how to start composting at home (under your sink, vermicomposting, in a bin in your backyard, in your garden bed, and more!) Play games and see real working compost bins and vermicompost (worm composting) bins in action! Lead by Outdoor Educator/farmer Chloe Drew at the Indiana Community Garden. - 18: Planting Day: (1:00PM-3:00PM) - Join us as we put our summer crops into the ground!
- 15: What's Wrong With My Garden Plant and What Can I Do About It? (5:00 PM) - Learn how to diagnose problems in your garden caused by common pests, diseases, and growing conditions such as weather or nutrient deficiencies. Discover strategies to help minimize problems so you can grow healthier, more productive plants. Feel free to bring photos showing problems you have had with garden plants. - 13: Planting Day and "Soil your Undies" challenge begins at Indiana Community Garden 9:30-12:30
*Plot owners and community bed gardeners, bring a clean pair of 100% cotton undies, we are going to have a friendly competition of whose garden soil is most ALIVE by planting our undies at least 6 inches deep and then in 6 weeks we all will dig them up and see the results*
