Harvesting for Food Banks

Picture
Food growing in our community garden beds are harvested by our garden volunteers mostly for the Chevy Chase food bank and ICCAP. We typically harvest every Monday morning. The produce is used by the center to cook the lunches they serve 4 days of week and for their Meal on Wheels programs. Produce not used for the cooking is offered for gleaning for the members of the food bank.

Together, the new Chevy Chase Food Forest and the community garden, host harvest tables where people in need can get fresh organic produce. The type of produce growing in our community gardens usually include many types of lettuce, kale, swiss chard, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, peas, peppers, squash, and various herbs.

If you are interested in harvesting or participating in our harvest tables, please contact us at
